What the Battery Regulation requires
Article 77 of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 requires a passport for each LMT battery, each industrial battery above 2 kWh and each EV battery placed on the EU market from 18 February 2027. Annex XIII sets the content: public information on the battery model (chemistry, material composition, carbon footprint, recycled content, capacity), more detailed data for persons with a legitimate interest, and data on each individual battery such as state of health and use. The passport is reached through a QR code linked to a unique identifier.

Second life: batteries that change status
Batteries placed on the market before 18 February 2027 do not need a passport, but a battery that is repurposed or remanufactured after that date gets a new passport, linked to the passport of the original battery when there is one (Article 77(7)).
