The Commission's ESPR working plan (COM(2025) 187) gives 2027 as the indicative year for adopting the delegated act for textiles and apparel. The application date will be set in that act, so the exact obligation date is not known yet.

Are generic green claims banned for clothing brands in the EU?

Yes, from 27 September 2026, when Member States apply Directive (EU) 2024/825. A generic environmental claim is an unfair commercial practice unless the trader can demonstrate recognised excellent environmental performance relevant to the claim.

Does the ban on destroying unsold clothes apply to small brands?

No. ESPR Article 25 exempts micro and small enterprises. It applies to large companies from 19 July 2026 and to medium-sized companies from 19 July 2030. Exempt companies must still not destroy unsold products supplied to them to get around the ban.

What is the best digital product passport software for clothing makers?

It depends on size. Large groups use enterprise supply chain platforms. Small and medium brands should look for one record per product, a public QR page, timestamped versions, supplier input and registry-ready export, on a plan that starts free or at low cost.

Can I start a textile DPP before the delegated act is adopted?

Yes. The product data you collect to support green claims, such as composition, certificates and repair information, is the core of a future DPP. Starting with a few products now reduces the work later.
